Shannon O’Keefe | MA, RCC

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC #24884) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). I hold a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from Adler University and a Bachelor of Arts in Child and Youth Care from the University of Victoria, majoring in social work.

Before completing my Master’s degree, my training in Child and Youth Care grounded me in relational, trauma-informed work with children, youth, and families, and shaped how I show up in the therapy room today. Counselling has always been a meaningful calling for me, and I feel deeply committed to walking alongside individuals as they navigate emotional challenges, build insight, and move toward greater connection and well-being.

I specialize in helping individuals navigate and overcome eating disorders, relationship challenges, and the impact of generational trauma, providing tailored support to foster healing and personal growth.

With my extensive background in social work and eating disorder treatment, I’ve developed a deep understanding of the societal factors that contribute to individual struggles. This knowledge enables me to approach each client holistically, recognizing the impact of social systems and trauma. Therefore, by creating a supportive and inclusive space, I empower individuals to heal, overcome challenges, and reclaim control over their well-being, ultimately guiding them toward a more fulfilling future.

Why I Do ThisWork

I hold wellness and connection in high regard, believing that laughter is a vital and transformative element in our journey toward authentic living. You'll often find me enjoying the outdoors, spending time with loved ones, or engaging in physical activity, as these mindful pursuits help me maintain balance, gratitude, and happiness.

My personal experiences during childhood and adolescence have deepened my understanding of the challenges others face and fueled my passion for helping individuals. Growing up in a difficult environment, I learned to cope with stress but eventually recognized that my approach was ineffective and detrimental to my well-being. Navigating these hardships motivated me to understand how people face adversity, highlighting the importance of emotional resilience.

I am deeply invested in each person's story and strive to ensure everyone feels heard and understood. Creating a calm, trusting environment for my clients is my top priority, recognizing the vulnerability this work requires. While we cannot change past events, we can alter their impact on us, and nurturing our inner lives allows for new possibilities and personal growth. This journey has shaped the compassionate approach I bring to my work as a therapist, and I am committed to guiding others through their difficulties, helping them overcome obstacles, and supporting them in achieving fulfilling lives.
